Here is RightStuf's press release page on the license. The series will start streaming on Viki this December and come out on DVD in 2013. Being even further awesome, RightStuf is soliciting questions from fans for a Q&A with Rose of Versailles creator Ikeda Riyoko.
Just to show how excited I am for this, here's some Rose of Versailles fan art. (Source links below each pic.)
Oscar-sama~ XD
The fan art above is cuter than a basket full of puppies.
Another cute (if kind of depressing XD) fan art.
I like Oscar and Andre together, but Oscar looks SO good with other women also.
(Antoinette does prefer Oscar's company over her husband's. ;D )
Soooo happy this was licensed. I didn't remotely expect it.
Update from Okazu:
Viki.com is premiering the opening episode at New York Comic-Com on October 13, followed by a Q&A session with Prof. Susan Napier. (I've already spoken with Prof. Napier and asked her a few questions written by myself, Katherine H. and Erin S. I'll hope that she'll have time to answer a few of them for us.)Sounds like a fun event! I'm not attending New York Comic-Con, but I am interested in Prof. Napier's answers to my, Erin, and Erica's questions, should she have time to answer them.
nice to hear but strangely I am not suprised. Did you hear that Onisama E just showed up on Hulu? http://www.hulu.com/search?q=dear+brother
ReplyDeleteYup, I did know about it. I added it to my list of legally streaming yuri and yuri-ish anime: http://yurinoboke.blogspot.com/2012/03/legally-streaming-yuri-and-yuri-ish.html
ReplyDeleteI was floored by Right Stuf/Nozomi's Rose of Versailles license announcement because Rose of Versailles has been a notoriously difficult franchise for North American companies to license- primarily because RoV is in a hard-to-sell-in-the-US category of anime (old shoujo) while being part of a massively popular and lucrative franchise in Japan. Takarazuka has been holding productions of RoV for decades, and it's still hard to get a ticket to one of them, and RoV is still used to market products to women. Here's a recent example: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2012-08-23/rose-of-versailles-adorns-women-underwear-catalog Not being nearly as popular as RoV, Oniisama E would be easier for a non-Japanese company to negotiate the distribution rights for.
H-hey, what's with all this picture spam? Surely you could have elaborated more with words right xD
ReplyDelete@Justin- *old school shoujo gasp* Rose of Versailles is SO amazing, its fan art NEEDS no further elaboration. OH ho ho *cue eye glint as a gust of flower petals dramatically blows by*
